Located on the right side of the belly, the liver is the second-largest organ in the human body. It weighs around 3 pounds and is a reddish-brown organ with a rubbery feel. An armored rib cage guards the liver against external harm. It has two lobes and is shaped like a triangle. Both lobes are divided by a band of tissue that holds the diaphragm attached, with the right lobe being bigger than the left. Bile is gathered and drained into the gallbladder or the intestine through a system of tubes in the liver known as the biliary tree. An essential digesting fluid produced by the liver is called bile. The extrahepatic ducts, which are on the outside, and the intrahepatic ducts, which are inside the liver, are additional significant parts of the liver. Anatomically, the liver, along with some of the pancreas and intestines, is situated beneath the gallbladder. To digest, absorb, and assimilate food, all of these organs function in perfect harmony. Before it is sent to the rest of the body, the liver also filters the blood from the digestive system.
